"Cruising the Loire River."
The Loire Valley is known for two things very French: its wonderful castles, and its magnificent wines. The length of the Loire river and the diversity in soils and climate of the valley makes it a greatly varied wine region. Although mostly known for its beautiful take on Sauvignon Blanc - Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé being the region's most prestigious ambassadors- the Loire Valley produces some very unique wines. Here are some examples of what the Loire Valley has to offer.
1: Touraine - grape: Sauvignon Blanc
2: Vouvray - grape: Chenin Blanc
3: Sancerre Rouge - grape : Pinot Noir
"When in Bordeaux..."
In the universe of wine Bordeaux has always been synonym with prestige. The long and complex tradition of winemaking in the region makes Bordeaux wines seem sometime quite inaccessible. There are about sixty different Bordeaux appellations spread between two main regions: the left and right banks of the Dordogne river. The "left bank" Bordeaux wines are mostly Cabernet Sauvignon-based whereas they are Merlot-based on the "right bank". Even though roughly 85% of Bordeaux wines are reds, the region's take on Sauvignon Blanc have made white Bordeaux quite popular in the last twenty five years.
1: Domaine Augey, Bordeaux Blanc - grape: Sauvignon Blanc
2: Château La Garousse - grapes: 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc
3: Chateau La Grave Medoc - grapes: 54% Cabernet-sauvignon, 43% Merlot,2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec

Few grapes have the formidable versatility of Chardonnay. Sometime oaky, sometime "un-oaked", creamy or buttery, dry or fruity.... whatever form the grape is asked to take, its essence is always unmistakable.

2: Macon Villages - Country: France
3: First Press - Country: United States
"The Sweet Tooth" 13
What about a liquid dessert?

3: Cline - Grape: Red Zinfandel"
New World Order 15
The world has changed a lot in the past fifty years. The predominance that Europe had in wine production is now part of the past. The "new world' wines have been taking over! New vision, new attitude, new techniques without the weight of tradition and rules.... The winemakers from the United-States, Latin America, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are reinventing themselves constantly with skills, boldness and playfulness.
